Craftsmanship: the backstrap loom

The back strap loom is a lightweight, mobile loom made of wooden sticks and a strap that is wrapped around the back. It only needs to be attached to a tree or a post for stability and to provide tension.

This simple technology means that almost anyone can own a backstrap loom and that the loom can be set up almost anywhere.

Our blankets, placemats and some of our pillows are woven on these primitive looms, one thread at a time.

We particularly love this tool that is compact enough for our artisan partners to work from home and make a living while taking care of their family.
